S.C. State, Florida A&M To Meet In MEAC Men?s Tennis Championship Final

The South Carolina State University Bulldogs and the Florida A&M University Rattlers will compete Sunday, April 15 in the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Tennis Championship final beginning at Noon.  

Top seeded South Carolina State defeated the No. 3 Bethune-Cookman Wildcats to earn their place in tomorrow's title match.  The Bulldogs captured the doubles point winning 8-0 at the number two position and 8-4 at the number three spot to take the early lead. After earning victories at the number six and four positions, All-MEAC first team selection and 2011 MEAC Player of the Year, Dmytro Kovalevych defeated Juan Varon 6-3, 6-2 at the number two spot to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats. S.C. State will vie for their fifth consecutive and 11th overall MEAC title. 

In the second men's semifinal, the No. 2 Florida A&M Rattlers defeated the No. 4 Norfolk State Spartans 4-0. Florida A&M took the lead after winning the doubles point at the number two (8-2) and three (8-6) spots.  The Rattlers recorded wins in singles competition at the number three and four positions. FAMU's Temuera Asafu-Adjaye defeated Roosevelt Cooper 6-3, 6-3 to guide the Rattlers to their third consecutive championship appearance.
