This Week in MEAC Volleyball

NORFOLK, Va. — Action continues this week in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball, with eight conference play matches scheduled across Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

Coppin State made history Tuesday night, rallying for a thrilling 3-2 victory over Loyola Maryland. With the victory, the Eagles improved to 11-5 overall and extended their winning streak to 10 consecutive matches, matching the program record for the longest winning streak.

Norfolk State will travel to play Hampton, a team the Spartans already beat 3-2 earlier this season.

MEAC VOLLEYBALL NET NOTES 

Coppin State stands out in the MEAC for both front-row and back-row defense. Setter Eva Rovello leads the league with 9.29 assists per set. Middle blocker Kayden Cupid leads the conference with 79 total blocks, and libero Coco Figueroa leads the defense with 266 digs, averaging 4.03 per set. 

Delaware State has two of the conference's top offensive players. Hannah Sanders leads the league with a .413 hitting percentage, and Aaliyah Mitchell averages 3.60 kills per set, the highest individual scoring rate. 

Norfolk State also has two standout players. Outside hitter Gabrielle Gilbert leads the league with 179 total kills, and Jazeli Vandenburgh leads the conference with 29 service aces. 

Middle blockers Kayden Cupid from Coppin State and Dynasty Andrews from Maryland Eastern Shore are tied for the MEAC lead, each averaging 1.36 blocks per set.
