MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Apr. 14, 2026 – Howard junior Michael Major Jr. has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate Alexander Monagan earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors. 
 
Major Jr. (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas) went 2–1 at No. 1 singles, earning straight-set victories over Temple’s Maj Najvirt Kolaric and Coppin State’s Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov. He also posted a 2–1 doubles record with wins over Coppin State and Navy to finish the weekend 4–2 for the Bison. 
 
Monagan (Fr., Natchez, Miss.) went 2–0 at No. 6 singles with straight-set wins and added a doubles victory to finish the week undefeated in both singles and doubles. 

Other Top Performers  
  • Mikala Bankou (SCSU) won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with Novak Novakovic, helping secure a 4–0 shutout over Coastal Carolina. 
  • Andrii Borodatiuk (SCSU) captured a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles position and added a doubles victory. 
  • Kareem Abdul Hakim (NCCU) picked up two singles wins, including a straight-sets victory over North Carolina A&T and a three-set win over Norfolk State. 
  • Kasper Kulpa (NSU) earned a straight-sets singles win at NC Central, defeating his opponent 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).  
  • Santiago Pinna (NCCU) posted a 2-1 record at the No. 4 singles position, earning straight-set wins over North Carolina A&T and Norfolk State.  
  • Dominik Simunovic (NSU) earned a straight-sets victory at the No. 5 singles position, winning 6-2, 6-3.
