The Norfolk State women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Round Up, sweeping Coppin State 7-0 on Monday at the ODU Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Norfolk State set the tone early in doubles play, securing the opening point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. The tandem of Yuliya Yurkova and Yana Klimchuk earned a 6-2 win at the top position, while Regina Urbiola and Angelina Maniawska clinched the point with a win by forfeit at No. 3.
The Spartans carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches to complete the shutout. Yuliya Yurkova led the way at No. 1 with a three-set thriller, 6-1, 5-7, 10-5, while Regina Urbiola followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 2.
Yana Klimchuk continued the strong showing with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3, and Sabina Iurea added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4. Irena Iurea secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5, while Kayla Kennedy rounded out the sweep with a win by forfeit at No. 6.

North Carolina Central Eagles closed out the MEAC Round-Up with a strong showing, earning a 4-3 win over Morgan State Bears. The Eagles set the tone early by securing the doubles point with tiebreak victories from Mariana Zottoli / Valeria San Miguel Soria and Alejandra Hidalgo Vega / Valentina de Aquino. In singles play, Mariana Zottoli and Journee Henderson delivered key straight-set wins, before Alejandra Hidalgo Vega rallied from a set down to clinch the match at No. 1 and snap Morgan State’s six-match win streak.

The Eagles of North Carolina Central secured the opening point by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.At No. 5 singles, Henderson set the tone with a straight-sets victory, while Zottoli followed with another win at No. 3 singles. The remaining matches were tightly contested, all going to three sets and featuring multiple tiebreaks.
At No. 1 singles, Hidalgo Vega claimed the second and third sets to earn a key point for the Eagles. San Miguel Soria battled through a first-set tiebreak and later secured a 10-point tiebreaker to win at No. 2. Barbaric added another point in the No. 4 slot, taking the first and third sets, while Valentina de Aquino capped off the match in the No. 6 position by winning back-to-back tiebreakers to secure the Eagles' seventh point.
