Hornets Sweep Eagles in Day One of Coppin Series

GAME 1 | Delaware State 5, Coppin State 3
 

BALTIMORE, Md. --The Delaware State Hornets rallied from down 3-1 in the sixth inning to win in thrilling fashion, scoring four runs in the seventh to earn a 5-3 victory over the Coppin State Eagles Saturday.

Kaylanie Rodriguez (4-3) got the win for Delaware State (9-15, 2-5). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Rhyannon Stanley also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Delaware State got an RBI single from Zaelyn Harding, scoring Savannah Siffert from second base.

The Eagles then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the seventh. The Delaware State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Nevaeh Terrell and a two-run single from Karly Cain, which brought the Hornets lead to 5-3. The score remained 5-3 for the rest of the game, as Delaware State held on for the win.

BALTIMORE, Md. --Kristin White was on a roll on Saturday, throwing a two-hit shutout to lead the Delaware State Hornets over the Coppin State Eagles 9-0.

White (3-6) went the distance for Delaware State (10-15, 3-5), giving up two hits, walking two, and striking out nine.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Destiny Mitchell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.

The Hornets then tacked on runs in the second and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored four times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run home run off the bat of Mi'Shon King.
