Men’s Tennis Upends Mount St. Mary’s, 5-2

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 25, 2026)--The Morgan State men's tennis team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference match at home against Mount St. Mary's. The Bears would defeat the Mountaineers, 5-2 at Lake Clifton Park Tennis Courts.
 
The Bears improved to 4-7 with the win and ended a three-match losing skid. Mount St. Mary's dropped its second straight and fell to 3-9 on the season.
 
Morgan State began the afternoon dropping two of the three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. The Bears' tandem of Abdulraheem Isa and Ilya Maltsev won their match at No. 3 doubles to provide Morgan's lone doubles victory.
 
The hosts regrouped to win five of the six singles contests to earn the win. Maltsev would need three sets to get past the Mountaineers' Akarsh Gaonkar 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 singles match. Roman Filima claimed victory at the No. 3 spot, following a 6-4, 7-5 win over Alexi Roy.
 
Mohamed Ghettas defeated Mount St. Mary's Ryan Wagner 6-4, 6-3 in a No. 4 match and Yessine Kerouat cruised past Luke Papayoanou 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. Abdulraheem Isa rounded out Morgan's scoring with a No. 6 victory over Daniel Haddadin 6-2, 6-4.
 
Next up: Morgan State will travel to the other end of Coldspring Lane to take on Loyola University Maryland on Wednesday, March 26, in a non-conference match. First serve is at 2 p.m. at McClure Tennis Center at Ridley Athletic Complex.
