NCCU Athletics Mourns the Passing of Steven Perry

DURHAM, N.C. - Steven Perry, a former offensive lineman for the North Carolina Central University football program, passed away Sunday morning in a car crash on the Durham Freeway, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed. He was 30 years old.

Perry lettered as an offensive lineman for the Eagles from 2014-17. The Durham, N.C., native played 30 games during his collegiate career, including starting in all 11 games his senior season in 2017. 

He was a key member of the 2016 team that won the MEAC championship after going a perfect 8-0 in conference play, culminating in NCCU's first appearance in the Celebration Bowl.

While at NCCU, Perry was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., joining the "Mighty" Tau Psi Chapter.   

Perry graduated in 2018 with a degree in criminal justice, and he went on to join the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Perry attained the rank of Master Trooper and was a member of the 148th Basic Patrol School.

He served Durham County throughout his career.
