RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 4, 2026)--The Morgan State women's tennis team returned to the courts on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference match at Virginia Commonwealth (VCU). The host Rams would hold off Morgan State, 7-0 at Thalhimer Tennis Center.

VCU (3-1) struck first by winning the doubles point, following victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots to take a 1-0 lead.

The Rams would then claim all six singles contests to complete the sweep. Despite the sweep, Morgan State fought hard and forced a third set in three of the contests.

After dropping the opening set of her No. 1 singles match 5-7, Michaela Stephens earned a 7-5 win in Set 2. She would eventually fall in the third set, 1-0 (10-2). Marta Serra Carles also went three sets with VCU's Andrea Magallanes at No. 5. Carles would earn a 7-6 (7-4) victory in Set 1, before falling in the next two sets 6-1 and 1-0 (10-6). Lauryn Hall picked up a 7-5 win in the opening set over Sara Alba and lost the second set, 6-3. Hall then fell in the third and final set, 1-0 (10-6).

Next Up: The Lady Bears (0-3) will be off until next Wednesday, Feb. 11, when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on George Washington at 9 a.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
