CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team split its double-header at the Halton Arena, defeating Ohio in five sets before falling to Furman in straight sets on Friday.
In the opener, the Hawks outlasted Ohio in a thrilling five-set battle (25-23, 22-25, 15-25, 25-11, 15-13). Valeria Matias tied her career high and set a season high with 26 digs to anchor the back row, while Jayda Hutchins paced the offense with 34 assists to go along with six kills, three aces, and three digs. Hutchins has now recorded 20 or more assists in five consecutive matches, the first in her career. Karielys Melendez added her third double-double of the season, tallying a season-best 15 digs and 11 kills while also serving three aces.
In the nightcap, UMES fell to Furman in straight sets. Nkemjika Ikemefuna led the Hawks with 10 kills, while Matias collected eight digs and Hutchins dished out 17 assists. Lilliana Montes provided a defensive presence at the net with a team-high four blocks.

CLEMSON, S.C. – Norfolk State volleyball pushed host Clemson to four sets on the final day of the Big Orange Bash, earning a second-set win before falling 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 11-25).
Clemson improved to 11-0, while the Spartans dropped to 0-12.
Gabrielle Gilbert paced the Spartans with 18 kills, while Faw added six. McCree tallied 25 assists, and Mya Wood and Paula Sigurani recorded 15 digs apiece.
Norfolk State returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., for its home opener against Hampton in the "Battle of the Bay" at Gill Gymnasium.
Rutgers def. Coppin State, 3-0 BOX SCORE | RECAP
FAIRFAX, Va. – Coppin State's volleyball team fell to Rutgers, 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-16) on Friday night in the second day of George Mason's Patriot Invitational. The Eagles fell to 6-8 on the season while the Scarlet Knights improved to 8-2.
TaKenya Stafford, Ivanna Luna and Cherisse Atilano all had six kills to lead the Navy & Gold, followed by Kayden Cupid with four, and both Andrea Cintron and Beatriz Cornachini with three apiece.
Saint Peters def. Morgan State, 3-1, BOX SCORE | RECAP
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Sept. 19, 2025)-- Morgan State dropped its final non-conference match of the season on Friday evening, falling on the road to Saint Peter's, 3-1 (20-25, 20-25, 25-18, 21-25) at Yanitelli Center.
Saint Peter's improved to 4-4 on the season, while ending a two-match losing skid to the Bears. Morgan State finished its non-conference slate at 3-7 and now holds a 4-3 all-time series lead over the Peacocks.
Hanna Nemeth tallied a team-high 15 kills and Jada Williams added 11 for Morgan State. Williams also added a combined four blocks, including a solo to help the Bears hold an 8.0-6.0 blocking advantage over Saint Peter's.
Williams moved into sole position of seventh place on the Morgan State career charts with 237 blocks.
Tameary Wardlaw finished with a match- and season-best 17 digs and Isabelle Brown recorded 17 assists, while Mya Karrick totaled 13 assists.
