Coppin State delivered a balanced performance in a strong outing against Lafayette, led by double-doubles from TaKenya Stafford (18 kills, 11 digs), Andrea Serrano (30 assists, 12 digs), and Coco Figueroa (19 digs, 10 assists). Cherisse Atilano added 16 kills, while Ahzhi Coleman and Ayanna Pharoah chipped in eight and seven, respectively, as the Eagles outhit the Leopards .294 to .250. Stafford also paced the defense with four blocks, and Coppin’s middle duo of Coleman and Kayden Cupid combined for an impressive .550 hitting percentage on 20 attempts. Behind the service line, the Eagles tallied nine aces, highlighted by three from Stafford, to round out a well-rounded team effort.

The hosting Hokies sprinted to a 16-4 lead in the opening frame, generating a 6-0 and an 8-0 run to enroute to a 3-1 victory over Maryland E. Shore. The third set was the most evenly matched of the game. Neither team separated from the other by more than four points throughout the set. Late in the set, the Hokies built a 21-17 lead before the Hawks fought back to go ahead 24-23. Virginia Tech scored four of the next five to edge out UMES 27-25 in set three. Although UMES sprung out to a 5-2 advantage to open the set, Virginia Tech took the lead for good with a 10-1 run. The Hokies controlled the rest of the match, finishing off the Hawks with a 25-18 win in set four.
Liberty def. Norfolk State, 3-0 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
Norfolk State battled valiantly but fell to Liberty in straight sets at Kaplan Arena in the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary. Junior outside hitter Gabrielle Gilbert paced the Spartans with 12 kills, while sophomore Reagan Chisholm chipped in six. Senior setter Sydney McCree notched her second consecutive double-double, finishing with 22 assists and 12 digs. Mary Nahinu anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs, joined by Jasmine Mataria in double figures with 10. Freshman Ava Berry provided a strong defensive presence at the net, recording a match-high eight blocks.
Marshall def. Md. Eastern Shore, 3-1 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
Marshall opened strong with a 10-1 run and held off a late surge from Maryland Eastern Shore to take the first set, then used another fast start and timely scoring to claim set two, 25-21. The Hawks responded in the third frame with an efficient .432 attack percentage, fueled by Nkemjika Ikemefuna’s four late kills to earn a 25-21 win and extend the match. The fourth set featured 14 ties in a tightly contested battle, but with the score knotted at 23-23, the Thundering Herd closed out with back-to-back points to secure the 3-1 victory.

Coppin State put together a strong all-around effort against Penn, highlighted by double-doubles from TaKenya Stafford and Cherisse Atilano, who each tallied 16 kills to tie for a match high while combining for 27 digs, two aces, and three blocks. In front of a packed Burr Gymnasium, Howard volleyball battled to a thrilling five-set showdown before falling 3-2 to North Carolina A&T on Friday night. The Bison opened with a 30-28 win in the first set, fueled by four aces and steady play from Zenai Jethroe, before the Aggies evened the match with a 25-21 victory in set two. After dropping a close third frame 25-23, Howard stormed back in an electrifying fourth set, edging A&T 28-26 behind clutch plays from freshmen Alexys James and Kristen Dear, along with key kills from Kennedi Wright and Rya McKinnon. The decisive fifth set saw momentum swing back to the Aggies, who ultimately closed out the contest, but Howard’s resilience and high-energy performance kept the crowd engaged until the final point.
