HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Aug. 30, 2025)--Morgan State concluded the Betty Austin Invitational on Saturday morning with a hard fought, 3-2 (25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 13-15) loss to Southern at Elmore Gymnasium.
Morgan State would wrap up the weekend going 1-2 against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foes, while Southern improved to 2-1.
Daniela Ferreira led three Morgan State players in double figures with a match-high 19 kills and added 12 digs to record a double-double.
Hanna Nemeth also tallied a double-double, finishing with a match-best 19 digs to go with 10 kills.
Jada Williams added 15 kills and
Isabelle Brown notched a match-high and weekend-best 49 assists.

HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Delaware State volleyball team secured a three-set win (26-24, 25-16, 25-19) over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Saturday on the road at Elmore Gymnasium.
The out-of-conference victory improved the Hornets' overall record to 3-0 on the season.
The Hornets attack was paced by Gerren Tomlin, who finished with 12 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .611, and by Emma Patmon, who had 11. got 12 digs from Emma Crakow along with five blocks from Kelsie Dawson to lead them defensively.

HAMPTON, Va. - Maryland Eastern Shore (1-1) downed the reigning SWAC champions Florida A&M (1-2) in five sets at Holland Hall.
In the opening set, UMES and FAMU split the first 30 points of the match. Five different Hawks recorded at least one kill in that opening span. After being tied 15-15, the Hawks scored 10 of the final 14 points in the frame. Led by three service aces from Tola Maczka, the Hawks scored the final five points of the set en route to a 25-19 set one victory.
Hampton, Va. - Maryland Eastern Shore (2-1) powered by Hampton (0-3) in four sets at Holland Hall.
After defeating Florida A&M earlier in the day, the Hawks set an early tone in the opening set in a similar fashion to the prior match. After splitting the first 20 points with Hampton, the Hawks pulled away with a 9-1 run. Two kills each from Anjola Omolewa and Rayah Howell, a kill and a service ace from Karielys Melendez, and an ace from Kate-Linh Eden highlighted the scoring surge. Despite yielding a late 5-0 run to Hampton, UMES staved off the comeback effort, winning the opening set 25-22.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coco Figueroa broke the school-record for digs in a five-set match while Cherisse Atilano set a freshman record for kills as Coppin State’s volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Aggie/Phoenix Invitational on Saturday at Moore Gymnasium. The Eagles fell to Bethune-Cookman, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) before taking North Carolina A&T to five sets (25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12) in the Tournament finale.

TaKenya Stafford had a match-high ten kills and added ten digs for a double-double, followed by Kayden Cupid with eight kills and Ayanna Pharoah with seven. Atilano added five kills while Araya Garrison chipped in with four in her CSU debut.
North Carolina A&T def. Coppin State, 3-2
Figueroa had a match-high 34 digs, the second highest ever by an Eagles player to Ashley Roman’s 36 against American on September 6, 2022, in four sets.. She also added three assists and three aces.

FAIRFAX, Va. (August 30, 2025) – Howard University women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to DMV rival George Mason in four sets (26-28, 25-12, 15-25, 14-25).
Senior outside hitter Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) led the charge with a match-leading 17 kills.
Both squads went back-and-forth in the opening set with neither side able to create separation. Freshman setter Alexys James (Houston) tied set one, 26-26, in the waning moments with a kill, but back-to-back hitting errors put Mason ahead after game one, 28-26.
USF def. Norfolk State, 3-0 - BOX SCORE | RECAP
ORLANDO, Fla. – Norfolk State volleyball closed out the UCF Tournament on Saturday evening with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) loss to host Central Florida.
Gabrielle Gilbert led the Spartans with 13 kills, while
Reagan Chisholm collected 11 digs.
Sydney McCree added 11 assists in the match.
UCF built an early 10-6 lead in the opening set, but Gilbert and Isis Castile answered with a pair of kills to trim the deficit. The Spartans kept within striking distance, closing the gap to 16-12 after three straight points. The Knights finished the frame on a 9-3 run to take the set 25-15.
N.C. Central def. UNC Wilmington, 3-1 - BOX SCORE | RECAP
WILMINGTON, N.C. – North Carolina Central won its first volleyball match in the Jonathan Paulk era.
The Eagles bounced back from two losses a day ago to beat UNC Wilmington on Saturday in the Seahawk Classic. The four-set victory (21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17) on UNCW's homecourt (Hanover Hall) was the first-ever over the Seahawks in five matches.
NCCU improved to 1-2 overall while UNCW dropped to 0-3.
Several players contributed to the victory.
Kamren Harper led the Eagles with 16 kills and added four blocks while
Leanna Beaty had 12 kills and two service aces.
Manuela Cripa Nasser amassed 43 assists and 12 digs.
S.C. State def. Arkansas Pine Bluff, 3-1 - BOX SCORE | RECAP
THE HILL| South Carolina State volleyball team captured an impressive 3-1 victory over the final day of competition in the second annual Betty Austin Invitational held on the campus of Alabama A&M Saturday.
SCSU (1-2) got off to a slow start in the invitational dropping early contest to host Alabama A&M 1-3 and Southern 1-3 before picking up the big win.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by
Hailey Harris with 14 kills, while
Kiyah Felder added 8.
Arianna James led the way in assists with 14 and
Alissa Williams chipped in 9. Senior
Miya Benson finished with 12 digs and
Robyn White with 7 respectively.
