GAME 1
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Jada Williams tallied a match-high 10 kills and Daniela Ferreira added eight to lead the Bears to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-14) season opening sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the opener of the Betty Austin Invitational at Elmore Gymnasium.
 
The win was Morgan State's first season opening victory since a 3-2 win over Seton Hall in 2019.

GAME 2 - Morgan State returned to the court Friday night to take on host Alabama A&M in the nightcap of the Betty Austin Invitational at Elmore Gymnasium.
 
The outcome was literally night and day from the Bears' 3-0 season opening win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the morning, as Morgan State would fall to the host Bulldogs in three sets, 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-22) to fall to 1-1 on the season.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – North Carolina Central was competitive in three-set losses to Virginia Tech and Lindenwood in the season-opening Seahawk Classic at Hanover Hall on Friday.

Kamren Harper led the Eagles with 12 kills against Virginia Tech while Madi Disu and Allyson Rouse chipped in seven kills and six kills, respectively. Manuela Cripa Nasser finished with 28 assists, 10 digs and three service aces while Loren Johnson added 13 digs. Rouse totaled two blocks.

NCCU VS. VIRGINIA TECH
The Eagles showed potential in the three-set loss (18-25, 30-32, 26-28) to the ACC school. After a slow start in the first set, NCCU took charge in the final two sets before Virginia Tech rallied both times. The Eagles led 19-13 in the second set and 19-15 in the third set.

NCCU VS. LINDENWOOD
The Eagles showed effort against Lindenwood in the three-set defeat (21-25, 20-25, 18-25). The first set was tied 16-16 and the Eagles only trailed 18-16 in the second set. Lindenwood pulled away in both sets before taking the third set.

Game 1:
HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Delaware State volleyball team took care of business in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-17) to take down the Southern Lady Jaguars Friday at Elmore Gymnasium.

The non-conference win improved Delaware State's overall record to 1-0 on the season.

Gerren Tomlin finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Hornets attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .684. got 11 digs from Emma Crakow to lead them defensively.

Game 2
The Delaware State volleyball team needed only three sets (25-15, 25-7, 25-21) to take down the UAPB Lady Lions Friday at Elmore Gymnasium.

The non-conference victory improved Delaware State's overall record to 2-0 on the season.

Gerren Tomlin finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .556. got six digs from Myracle Davis to lead them defensively.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Norfolk State volleyball team dropped two matches at the UCF Tournament on Friday, including a five-set battle against UT Chattanooga.
 
GAME 1 – UT Chattanooga 3, Norfolk State 2
Gabrielle Gilbert powered the Spartans with 18 kills, while Reagan Chisholm added nine. Freshman Mary Nahinu tallied four aces, and both Ava Berry and Chisholm posted four blocks.
 
Norfolk State served six aces as a team, while Chattanooga finished with nine. The Mocs hit .195 compared to the Spartans' .108.

GAME 2 – UC Riverside 3, Norfolk State 0
Gilbert again led NSU's attack with 14 kills and added seven digs. UC Riverside controlled offensively, hitting .354 compared to Norfolk State's .207.

HAMPTON, Va. - The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (0-1) fell to the East Carolina Pirates (2-0) in straight sets at Holland Hall.

How It Happened
2024 NIVC tournament participants East Carolina began the match on an 11-4 run. Highlighted by back-to-back service aces from Jayda Hutchins and a pair of kills from Rayah Howell, UMES scored six of the next seven points. The Pirates then tallied a 13-5 run to clinch a 25-15 victory in the opening set.
 

Coppin State def. Elon, 3-1 - BOX SCORE | RECAP

ELON, N.C. – TaKenya Stafford posted a double-double 19 kills and 12 digs, leading Coppin State to a 3-1 (10-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20) season-opening victory at Elon on Friday night at the Schar Center.  Tonight's match was the opener of the Aggie/Phoenix Invitational, co-hosted by Elon and North Carolina A&T.
 
A senior from Los Angeles, Calif., Stafford's double-double was the 31st of her career after leading the MEAC in the category last season.  Stafford's 19 kills were a match-high and she finished the night with a .304 hitting percentage on 46 swings.
 

Howard def. George Washington, 3-2 - BOX SCORE | RECAP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Howard University volleyball (1-0) opened the season with a 3-2 nail-biting victory over George Washington (0-1) Friday evening in Burr Gymnasium.
 
Freshman Alexys James (Houston) led the way with her first career double-double (12 kills & 12 digs).
 
Howard came out strong, jumping to a 5-0 lead. The Revolutionaries closed the gap, 5-4, before the Bison inched away to a 14-9 lead, led by graduate outside hitter Aziah Buckner's (Memphis, Tenn.) kills and James' back-to-back aces. Consecutive errors gave the Bison an 18-13 advantage, prompting a timeout from GW (George Washington). The regroup boosted the Revolutionaries to a one-point deficit, 19-18, and three straight errors gave GW the lead, 21-19. Redshirt sophomore Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) broke up the sudden charge with a block and kill, but an attack error would give GW the first set point, 25-23.
