GREENWOOD, Ind. – The North Carolina Central men's and women's track & field teams had four student-athletes earn 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Melanne Sutton, Sa'Niya Fowler, Nelson Anderson and Matthew Swepson were the four Eagles selected.
To qualify for nomination, student-athletes in their respective sports must be at least sophomores and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. For track and field specifically, eligible nominees must have a top-50 ranking in an event in either indoor or outdoor competition.
Sutton earned rankings during the indoor and outdoor seasons. At the 2025 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Sutton moved up to 14th in the Division I Southeast Region for 60m (7.38) and 46th in the 200m (24.37) on the indoor performance list.
On the region's outdoor list, the sprinter ranked 18th in the 100m (11.41) and 42nd in the 200m (23.86). Sutton's time in the 100m earned her an invitation to the 2025 NCAA East Regional First Round, as she ranked 44th in the East during her sophomore campaign.
Fowler garnered a total of five rankings in the Southeast region this season. The senior was 26th in the shot put (14.09m) and 46th in the weight throw (16.43m) on the indoor performance list. She placed in the shot put again during the outdoor season, earning the 38th spot with a throw of 13.25m. Fowler's execution in the discus throw (42.92m) and hammer throw (54.30m) ranked her 41st and 26th in the Southeast, respectively.
Anderson's hammer throw in the 2025 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships positioned him 42nd in the Southeast with a mark of 51.10m. The senior collected a silver medal at the championships for his performance.
Swepson was 42nd in the Southeast region in the javelin event. At the 2025 VertKlasse Meeting, Swepson threw 53.07m to move him on the list in April. Swepson was named the Outstanding Co-Field Athlete Performer at the 2025 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships after winning two bronze medals while competing in four events.
