NORFOLK, Va., May 9, 2025 – No. 6 seed South Carolina State continued its impressive tournament run, edging out third-seeded Delaware State 5-4 in the MEAC Softball Championship consolation final on Friday afternoon at the NSU Softball Field.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs advance to Saturday’s championship game, where they will face top-seeded Howard at 12 p.m. live on ESPN+.

Delaware State struck first, plating four runs in the top of the second inning. Zaelyn Harding scored the game’s opening run following a sacrifice bunt from Kaylie Noell that led to a defensive error. Mi’Shon King added another run on a groundout, before Noell and Annalisse Santana came around to score on a double and a single, respectively, giving the Hornets a 4-0 lead.

S.C. State answered in the bottom of the third, as Taylor Ames-Alexander drove in Marley Quammie with a single for the first run. LaKauree Munyan followed with a base hit plating Jamaria Charley to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Ames-Alexander came through once again in the fifth, crushing a three-run homer over the centerfield fence to give the Lady Bulldogs a 5-4 advantage. Charley and Madison Boyd scored on the blast.

Delaware State threatened in the final two innings but couldn't capitalize, as S.C. State’s defense held firm to preserve the one-run lead and punch their ticket to the title game.
