BALTIMORE, Md. (May 7, 2025) — The Morgan State athletics department posted a strong Academic Progress Rate (APR) score report, according to the annual information released by the NCAA offices this week.

Morgan State University's athletic program is celebrating a significant academic achievement. All 16 varsity sports programs have collectively achieved a record-high multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 988. This surpasses the NCAA Division I minimum eligibility requirement of a 985 multi-year APR score.

Notably, this is the first year Morgan State has earned the academic unit based solely on its APR score, marking a milestone in demonstrating the academic progress and success of its student-athletes. While the academic unit can also be earned through the institutional Graduation Success Rate or the Federal Rate, the APR score accomplishment highlights the university's commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence within its athletic department.

"Our dedicated student-athletes consistently strive for excellence in the classroom, and our exceptional staff and coaches are committed to providing an enriching experience," said Dena Freeman-Patton, vice president and director for Intercollegiate Athletics at Morgan. "I congratulate the nine teams that achieved a perfect 1000 score for the 2023-24 academic year."

According to the most recent NCAA report on the 2023-24 cycle, nine different Morgan programs earned perfect 1000 APR scores. The nine perfect APR scores include three men's programs (basketball, wrestling and tennis) and six women's programs (basketball, cross country, tennis, bowling, track & field, and volleyball).  Notably, the Women's Bowling program has earned the prestigious Public Academic Recognition, further solidifying Morgan State's commitment to academic success within its athletic programs.

Each academic year, every Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and 1 point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term. For schools that do not offer athletics scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

A full list of APRs for each team, including the Top 10, can be accessed by using the APR searchable database. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years. UTC's full APR scoring report can be found below.
