NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State and Old Dominion rivalry have renewed their historic crosstown rivalry.
In conjunction with ODU, Norfolk State announced a home-and-home series between the two men's basketball programs set to take place for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons.
The Spartans will head to ODU for a highly anticipated showdown at Chartway Arena on Nov. 11, 2025. The teams will square off the following season at Norfolk State's Echols Hall, slated for Nov. 11, 2026.
"This is tremendous news not only for Norfolk State and Old Dominion fans, but all basketball fans in the Hampton Roads community," NSU Director of Athletics Dr. Melody Webb said. "This rivalry showcases the two premiere state universities of the beautiful city of Norfolk, allowing both programs to come together in the spirit of competition. I am confident that our fanbase's presence will be heard loud and clear in both arenas, and I am certain our players, coaches, and administrators will make Spartan Nation proud."
The 2025 meeting will mark the first contest between the teams since Dec. 3, 2023. The programs have faced off 21 times since their first matchup in 1965, with Old Dominion holding a 15-6 lead in the all-time series.
"It's great that our two institutions have finally agreed to a home-and-home series," Norfolk State men's basketball head coach Robert Jones said. "I think this is wonderful for the city and the 757. Two storied basketball programs will now compete for the next two years … at least. We are excited about this crosstown rivalry."
Game times will be determined at a later date.
Norfolk State comes off a decorated 2024-25 campaign, winning both the MEAC Regular Season and Tournament titles. The Spartans ended the season with a 24-11 overall record, making their fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Three of the program's four MEAC Tournament Championships have come during Jones' time at the helm.
