N.C. A&T State Bowling to face Youngstown State in NCAA Regional Rematch

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The North Carolina A&T State University women’s bowling team advanced to the next round of the National Collegiate Bowling Championship Rochester Regional on Saturday, April 5. No. 8 N.C. A&T defeated No. 11 Louisiana Tech 2-0 in a rematch of yesterday's regional opener.

The Aggies now face the third seeded Penguins of No. 4 Youngstown State University in a rematch at 2:30 PM.

N.C. A&T got to work early in the traditional format collecting a 975 score while holding La. Tech off with a 957 score. Maya Avilez bounced back from a rough opening day to lead the Aggies with 211 pins behind eight strikes including a turkey in the tenth frame.

Laura Garcia was the other N.C. A&T bowler to break the 200 mark with a 204 score with five strikes and four spares after opening the game with a 7-pin split. Victorya White registered a 193 score with Grace Stull tallying 189 pins and Chloe Newberry rounding out the group with a 178 score.

Moving into the baker five total pinfall, the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech got out to an early lead winning games one and two, 182-169 and 232-191 respectively, jumping out to a 54 pin advantage. The pins started falling for N.C. A&T in the third game as the Aggies registered eight strikes and three spares to win 248-224 cutting La. Tech's lead to 30 pins. 

The Aggies continued on their hot streak with another strong game tallying seven strikes and two spares while the Bulldogs collected just four strikes and leaving three frames open, putting the final score for game three at 235-168 swinging the lead in favor of N.C. A&T by 37 pins. 

North Carolina A&T did not let up as they put another eight strikes on the board in game five for a team total of 218 pins while La. Tech tallied just 172 pins putting the five game total at 1,061 to 978 with North Carolina A&T advancing to face Youngstown State at 2:30 PM.
