GREENWOOD, Ind. – Coppin State's
Angel Jones and
Cire Worley have been named to the College Sports Communicators 2024-25 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, it was announced by the organization earlier this week. Jones was also selected as a finalist for CSC Academic All-America honors and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members, which will be announced on April 15.
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, the athlete must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA, and compete in 90 percent of games played or start in at least 66 percent of the school's games.
Jones was a First Team All-MEAC and BOXTOROW HBCU All-American after averaging 15.2 points and 4.7 rebounds to go with a team-high 120 assists along with 61 steals. A junior from Woodbridge, Va., Jones ranked fourth in the MEAC in both scoring and steals and third in assists and scored a career-high 29 points at eventual league champion Norfolk State.
Worley put up 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds to go with 43 assists, 29 steals and five blocks in her first season with the Eagles. A sophomore from Philadelphia, Pa., Worley hit 39 3-pointers, ranking ninth in the MEAC and scored a career-high 22 points in a win over Bryant.
The Eagles finished the season with an 19-15 overall record, their most victories since 2012, and earned their first postseason bid in 16 years, defeating Colgate in the First Round of the WNIT.
