MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., March 4, 2025 – Norfolk State sophomore Qween Edmonds has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week. Fellow Spartan Amaya McPherson was named Rookie of the Week, while Howard's Julia Holt was named the Pitcher of the Week.  
 
Edmonds (So., INF, Newport News, Va.) registered at least one hit in seven consecutive games collecting a .500 batting average for the week. Edmonds tallied 11 hits in 22 at-bats, scoring one run and hitting two doubles. She added 11 putouts and 20 assists in the Spartan infield. 

McPherson (Fr., P/INF, Woodbridge, Va.) recorded 22.1 innings pitched in five appearances in the circle. She gave up nine earned runs on 27 hits while striking out 13 batters collecting a 1-3 record at the rubber. At the plate, McPherson registered two hits in 10 at-bats with one double and two stolen bases. She also added 12 putouts and 13 assists. 

Holt (Jr., P, Tuscon, Ariz.) threw 10.2 innings going 2-1 in the circle with a 1.37 ERA. Holt allowed just two earned runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts in 43 batters faced.  

Other Top Performers  

  • Zaelyn Harding (Delaware State) went 4-of-14 at the plate with a double, one run scored and one RBI. 
  • Mi'Shon King (Delaware State) batted 3-of-3 with one double and one run scored in her only appearance of the weekend. 
  • Merci Hart (Howard) tallied six hits in 16 at-bats, driving in one RBI while hitting two doubles at the Outrigger Invitational. 
  • Makalah Clarke (Maryland Eastern Shore) went 1-of-5 at the plate for the Hawks with one double and one run scored. 
  • DeNae Ojeda (Maryland Eastern Shore) collected one hit in three at-bats with one run scored and two stolen bases.  
  • Kassidy Oneail (Maryland Eastern Shore) threw 9.2 innings giving up 11 runs on 17 hits and three earned runs for a 2.28 ERA. She struck out eight of the 44 batters faced.  
  • Brierra Tyler (Norfolk State) threw 16.1 innings giving up six earned runs on 12 hits with 12 strikeouts and four batters walked. 
  • ?Tyler Suttles (N.C. Central) registered seven hits in 12 at-bats with two RBI, one triple and one run scored in an 0-4 week for the Eagles.
