Spartans Close Out Undefeated MEAC Tennis Roundup with 5-2 Victory over Morgan State

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team closed out a flawless trip to the nation's capital, defeating Morgan State 5-2 to close the MEAC Tennis Roundup.
 
The Spartans (10-9, 3-1 MEAC) swept the opening doubles point, setting the tone early. Deniz Okyay and Jakub Solarski earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position, before McRae and Kubalka won 6-4 at the No. 3 slot. Vladisav Gorbatenko and Boris Lunin completed the sweep with a 7-6 (5) triumph at the top position.
 
Solarski gave Norfolk State a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Makkijha Brown at the No. 2 position. Mikeal Carpenter took down Gorbatenko 6-2, 6-2 at the top of the lineup, before McRae put Norfolk State ahead 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Mohamed Ridha Ghettas on Court 4.
 
Okyay clinched the match by defeating Bertin Karenzi 7-6 (4), 6-1 on position three. Jacob Poole bested Kubalka 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-1 on Court 5, but Lunin took down Anthony Parris 6-1, 6-4 on position six.
 
Norfolk State returns home for a 12 p.m. matchup against Hampton on Tuesday, Apr. 1 at 12 p.m.
