NORFOLK, Va., March 31, 2025 – Howard senior Alyssa Vasquez has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week.
Norfolk State's Amaya McPherson earned
Rookie of the Week honors while
Howard's Ameenah Ballenger and
North Carolina Central's Jaden Davis were named Co-Pitchers of the Week.
Vasquez (Sr., C, Eastvale, Calif.) recorded a .600 batting average going 9-of-15 at the plate in a 3-2 week for the Bison. Against California, Vasquez registered one hit and one RBI. In the series against Maryland Eastern Shore, she was 8-of-10 at the plate with three RBI, two doubles and one triple. Vasquez was a homerun shy of completing the cycle in the first game of the series against UMES. She tallied 35 putouts in the week, including 13 in the series finale against the Hawks.
McPherson (Fr., P/OF, Woodbridge, Va.) threw two complete games pitching 15.0 innings recording a 1.40 ERA. McPherson surrendered just three earned runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts and one walk. She also went 5-of-9 at the plate with two runs, two RBI, two doubles and two stolen bases in the Spartans series sweep over Delaware State.
Ballenger (Gr., P, Lansdown, Pa.) pitched a complete game five-inning no-hitter surrendering no runs in the series finale against UMES. She tallied a career-high 11 strikeouts with one walk in 16 batters faced.
Davis (Sr., P, Knightdale, N.C.) pitched 12.0 innings going 2-0 in the circle collecting a 1.17 ERA. She surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out 13 batters. In the opening game of the series, Davis struck out eight batters while surrendering two runs on four hits. She ended the weekend with a complete game shutout, the fifth in her career, with five strikeouts in the series finale against Coppin State.

- Brooklyn Tapusoa (Coppin State) went 3-of-7 at the plate with six RBI including five in the second game against NC Central during which she hit a double and homerun.
- Lauryn Jones (Howard) went 3-of-13 at the plate with two runs scored adding one stolen base and eight putouts.
- McKenzie Abiley (Maryland Eastern Shore) batted .333 going 3-of-9 at the plate with two doubles, one run scored and one stolen base.
- Clarke Calvin (Maryland Eastern Shore) registered two hits in 10 plate appearances with six putouts and 10 assists in an 0-4 week.
- Kassidy Oneail (Maryland Eastern Shore) pitched 15.0 innings through four games for UMES collecting an ERA of 4.67 while surrendering 10 earned runs on 27 hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
- Millie Cousins (Morgan State) recorded a .800 batting average going 4-of-5 at the plate with two runs scored, one double, three putouts and one assist in a series sweep over SC State.
- Victoria Fletcher (Morgan State) pitched 10.0 innings collecting a 0.00 ERA surrendering no runs on seven hits. She went 1-0 in the circle with seven strikeouts including six in the series opener against SC State.
- Olivia Garner (Morgan State) batted .444 going 4-of-9 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI.
- Kailey Bryant (Norfolk State) went 4-of-9 (.444) at the plate with one run, one RBI, two doubles and four putouts.
- Daiyah Bailey (North Carolina Central) recorded a .400 batting average going 4-of-10 at the plate with four runs scored, one RBI and four stolen bases.
- Tyler Suttles (North Carolina Central) registered six hits on 11 at-bats crossing home plate three times while driving in six RBI adding three doubles, one stolen base and two putouts on the week.
