Howard and Coppin State Set for WNIT Second Round Matchups

NORFOLK, Va. - March Madness continues in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as Howard University and Coppin State University gear up for their second-round matchups in the 2025 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on Monday and Tuesday night.
 
Howard enters the second round fresh off a 72-62 victory over Siena College on Friday, March 21. Graduate guard Destiny Howell finished with 11 points and five rebounds and now sits ninth on Howard’s all-time scoring list with 1,448 points, just 11 points away from surpassing Shannon Carlisle (2003-08) for eighth place.  

This will be the first meeting between Howard and College of Charleston since 2013, when the Cougars claimed a 79-68 victory on their home floor. The Bison will travel to the College of Charleston, with a tip-off set for 7 PM on Monday, March 24, broadcasting on FloSports. 

Coppin State will travel to Cleveland State for the second round of the WNIT on Tuesday, March 25, with tip-off set for 7 PM, airing on ESPN+. The meeting will be the first time the two teams have met on the hardwood. 

The Eagles advanced after a come-from-behind 58-48 victory over Colgate on Saturday, March 22. The Eagles overcame a 43-38 deficit entering the fourth quarter to pull out the win.  The win marked Coppin State’s first postseason victory since 2007, when they defeated Saint Joseph’s, 67-52, in the WNIT. 

Laila Lawrence recorded her 22nd double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and three blocks. With her 12 rebounds, Lawrence set a new Coppin State single-season rebounding record with 349 rebounds this season.
