RALEIGH, N.C., March 23, 2025 – North Carolina A&T State University returned to the top of the MEAC winning their ninth MEAC Championship in program history with a 4-1 win over the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Sunday, March 23.
The top-seeded Aggies won all four of their matches throughout the MEAC Championship Tournament en route to the 2025 Championship Title and earned the MEAC’s automatic qualifier spot to the NCAA Bowling Tournament. North Carolina A&T has won four of the last five MEAC titles (2021, 2022, 2023, 2025).
The 2025 NCAA bowling championship selections show will air on NCAA.com at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 26. The championships will then take place from Friday, April 11, to Saturday, April 12 at Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas, NV.
Game one saw the Aggies use five strikes and three spares, including a double in the tenth frame from Maya Avilez, to take the opening game 183-163. The Blazers tallied three strikes and five spares while leaving the eighth and tenth frames open.
North Carolina A&T followed with their second win in game two, leading UAB by 12 pins winning 179-167. The Aggies collected four strikes and five spares as a team, while Alabama-Birmingham had two strikes and six spares on the board.
The Aggies continued to roll in the third game, taking a 3-0 match lead after winning 187-175. North Carolina A&T put together five strikes and two spares with Laura Garcia recording two strikes in the second and seventh frames. Madison Colston of UAB fought to pull the Blazers back into the game with a turkey, three consecutive strikes, in the tenth frame.
The momentum shifted in favor of UAB in the fourth game as they beat NCA&T by nine pins, 171-162, to close the match score to 3-1. The Blazers registered two strikes with six spares leaving just one frame open while the Aggies left two frames open, added two strikes and seven spares.
North Carolina A&T rallied in the fifth game outscoring Alabama-Birmingham 196-145 to take a 4-1 advantage in the match score for the win. The Aggies recorded four strikes and five spares in the game. UAB tallied three strikes and three spares while leaving four frames open.
