NORFOLK, Va., Mar. 12, 2025 — Howard sophomore Michael Major Jr. has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate Kaosie Nwokedi earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Major Jr. (So., Nassau, Bahamas) won both his singles and doubles matches against North Carolina A&T State to go 2-0 on the week. In singles he picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ian Pedersen at the No. 1 singles spot. In doubles action with partner Marcel Dawson, the Bison won 6-1 over the Aggies duo of Pedersen and Akbarov.
Kaosie Nwokedi (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) went 2-0 with wins at both singles and doubles against N.C. A&T State. He won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles over Lucas Coupu-Moison, after winning 7-5 at No. 2 doubles with teammate Daniel Dunac.

Hugo Hidalgo Vega (NCCU) went 1-1 on the court winning his singles match in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) over St. Thomas Aquinas’ Seth Newman, while dropping his doubles pairing 5-7 with teammate Rodrigo Alves.

Deniz Okyay (NSU) went 2-2 on the week going 1-1 in singles and doubles play against Longwood and Hampton. He fell in three sets to Longwood’s Paiva Gonzalez (6-4, 3-6, 0-6) before picking up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Hampton’s Yanozie Amadike Pischelev. Alongside doubles partner Jakub Solarski, Okyay defeated the Lancers 6-3 while falling to the Pirates 4-6.

Igor Kubalka (NSU) collected a 2-2 overall record on the week going 1-1 in both singles and doubles action. His doubles win came over Longwood’s No. 3 pair of Uribe and Lindquist, while his singles victory came against Hampton’s No. 5 Aryan Arora (6-2, 6-0).
