MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb.5, 2025 – Coppin State senior Solomon Hammond was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Delaware State junior Christopher Johnson was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week.    

Hammond (Sr., Ghana) won the 60m dash at the Penn State National Open clocking in with a time of 6.65, breaking a school record previously held by Olympians Joseph Amoah and Joseph Manu. Hammond also placed fifth in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 21.31 seconds. 

Johnson (Jr., Willingboro, N.J.) won the shot put with a throw of 16.22m at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open, securing his third consecutive victory and placing him first in the MEAC in the shot-put event. 

Other Top Performers  

  • Marian Drazan (DSU) took bronze in the mile with a time of 4:14.39 and second in the 3000m clocking in at 8:31.13 at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open. 

  • Ashton McCullers (HU) set a school record in the pole vault with a leap of 4.88m, the best mark in the MEAC, finishing third overall at the George Mason Patriot Games. 

  • Zachary Hawkins (HU) finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.82 at the Bob Pollock Invite, recording the top time in the MEAC and ranking 45th nationally. 

  • Isaac Haywood (NSU) recorded a mark of 15.31m on his first jump in the men's triple jump to place second at the Penn State National Open. 

  • Julian Ward (NSU) won the 200m setting a new personal record of 21.53 at the Penn State National Open, securing his first career collegiate victory. 

  • Javon Brooks (SCSU) finished second overall in the 400m dash with a time of 47.28, a new personal record and a D1-45 ranking. He also anchored his team's fourth-place finish in the 4x400m relay clocking in at 3:09.93. 

  • Michael Hopkins (SCSU) finished 10th in the pole vault, setting a personal record with a jump of 4.80m.
