MEAC Announces Weekly Bowling Honors

NORFOLK, Va., February 20, 2025 – University of Alabama Birmingham junior Madelynn Oliva was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Week. Maryland Eastern Shore rookie Mariane Almeida was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week.    

Oliva (Jr., Palm Coast, Fla.) finished 47th overall at the Mid-Winter Classic Tournament hosted by No. 4 Arkansas State. Olivia averaged 186.00 pins per match with a tournament total of 930 pins and a weekend high score of 223. She ranked first on the week in baker average per frame (20.31) and sum of first ball percentage (77.7). Oliva ranked second in overall average per frame (19.64), sum fill percentage (83.8) and sum of first ball average (9.03). 

Almeida (Fr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) finished 23rd on the weekend with a total pinfall of 791 pins averaging 197.75 per game. She ranked second in the MEAC in traditional average per frame (19.78), third in sum of nine-count spare percentage (89.3), and fourth in sum fill percentage (83.3). Almedia recorded an average per frame of 18.42, the seventh best in the conference on the weekend. 

Other Top Performers 

Cameren Sullivan (HU) placed eighth overall with an average of 187.80 pins per frame at the MSU James Brown Invitational collecting a total pinfall of 939 pins.  

Carrington Beaman (MSU) finished sixth overall at the MSU James Brown Invitational with a team-leading 952 pins for an average of 190.40. She helped Morgan State to a fourth-place team finish while recording a high game of 206 pins against Sacred Heart and 204 pins in a win over Bowie State. 

Gabriella Ochoa (UMES) helped UMES finish second at the James Brown Invitational while personally finishing with the second-best pinfall total in the tournament with 1,004 while earning first team All-Tournament honors.
