Howard def. Maryland Eastern Shore - 86-62

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks dropped Monday night's MEAC matchup to Howard, 86-62.

The Howard Bison stormed out to an early 9-0 run to open the game with HU freshman Blake Harper pouring in seven points in the first three minutes.

After a timeout by UMES head coach Cleo Hill, Jr., guard Ketron "KC" Shaw broke the early Hawk scoring drought with a midrange jumper. Shaw went on to score eight of the first 10 UMES points while three makes from the free throw line by Hassan Perkins cut the HU lead down to five, 18-13, by the 10:48 mark.

Cardell Bailey three pointer at the 9:31 mark brought the Hawks to within two before Harper responded with a three pointer of his own followed by a fastbreak laying to spark a 11-0 run for the Bison and pushing the HU lead back up to thirteen, 29-16, with 6:40 to go.

SC State def. Coppin State - 87-57

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Jonathan Dunn came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points as the Coppin State men's basketball team fell at South Carolina State, 87-57, on Monday night at SHM Memorial Center. The Eagles fell to 4-20 overall and 2-7 in the MEAC while the Bulldogs improved to 13-12 on the year and 6-3 in league play.

  • Dunn made 6-of-9 shots from the floor and 7-of-10 from the line while adding five rebounds.
  • Julius Ellerbe III and Khali Horton also finished in double figures, tallying 15 points and ten points, respectively.
  • Toby Nnadozie added seven points while the rest of the Eagles combined for just six points.
  • Ellerbe had a team-high six rebounds, followed by Dunn and Nnadozie who also finished with four assists, three blocks and two steals.
  • The Bulldogs outshot Coppin, 55.0% to 36.5% and got 47 points from their bench.

Morgan State def. NC Central - 92-78

BALTIMORE, Md. - Morgan State rallied against North Carolina Central, overcoming a 13-point deficit to secure a dominant 92-78 win. The Bears' offensive firepower was on full display, spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Kameron Hobbs and Will Thomas, who combined for an impressive 47 points to take down the Eagles inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.

OPENING TIP

  • Kameron Hobbs led the Bears with a game-high 24 points and shot an efficient 9-for-16 from the field, including 5-for-5 from the free throw line...He also had a game-high eight assists with two steals in 37 minutes. 
  • Will Thomas recorded 23 points (8-14 FG) and was 4-for-4 from the stripe in 23 minutes. Rob Lawson added 12 points (3-6 FG) with four assists.
  • Daniel Akitoby recorded his sixth double-double of the season by registering 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a game-high three blocked shots. 
  • Perry Smith Jr. paced the Eagles with 19 points (6-11 FG) and 12 boards. Floyd Rideau Jr. added 15 points (4-7 3FG), while Po'Boigh King finished with 13 points on 4-for-15 shooting from the floor.

Norfolk State def. Delaware State - 96-84

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's basketball team controlled the tempo from start to finish in a 96-84 victory over Delaware State on Monday, led by a spectacular performance from Chris Fields Jr.
 
Fields finished the evening with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists, leading the Spartans (18-8, 8-1 MEAC) in all three categories. Brian Moore Jr. added 20 points, while Tyrel Bladen tallied 16 points and six rebounds on an 8-of-8 shooting night.
 
After playing limited minutes over the weekend at Maryland Eastern Shore, Christian Ings got off to a quick start on Monday. The guard knocked down a 3-pointer and mid-range jumper for the Spartans' first five points.
