MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 18, 2025 – Norfolk State sophomore Qween Edmonds has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week. Fellow Spartan Amaya McPherson was named Rookie of the Week, while S.C. State's Destiny Calloway was named the Pitcher of the Week.  
 
Edmonds (So., INF, Newport News, Va.) registered three consecutive multi-hit games collecting a .500 batting average, .538 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage during a 3-1 weekend for the Spartans. Edmonds tallied six hits in 12 at-bats, driving in two RBI, scoring two runs and hitting three doubles. She added 11 putouts and 10 assists in the Spartan infield on 21 chances.

McPherson (Fr., P/INF, Woodbridge, Va.) recorded her first collegiate pitching win throwing a full seven innings against Saint Peter's. McPherson gave up no earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters. At the plate, she registered two hits in three at-bats for a .667 batting average, driving in one RBI and scoring one run.  

Calloway (Jr., P, Evington, Va.) threw 12.0 innings, including a complete game win against Alabama A&M at the HBCU Classic. Calloway collected 2-0 record in the circle with a 1.17 ERA allowing just two earned runs on nine hits. She struck out an impressive 13 batters on the weekend including nine batters in five innings of work against Alcorn State. 

Other Top Performers  

  • Sidney Fletcher (Howard) drove in five RBI on five hits, including a double and home run, while scoring four times in four games for the Bison. 
  • Makalah Clark (Maryland Eastern Shore) tallied a .375 batting average after going 3-of-8 at the plate with two runs scored, two RBI, one triple and two stolen bases.  
  • Jaycee Holt (Maryland Eastern Shore) collected six hits in 13 plate appearances driving in two RBI, scoring three runs and stealing seven bases through four games.  
  • Kailey Bryant (Norfolk State) secured a 6-3 win in the circle throwing a complete game giving up two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 27 batters faced. 
  • Daiyah Bailey (N.C. Central) recorded three runs on five hits in 10 at-bats (.500 BA) with two RBI, one double and two stolen bases. 
  • Jaden Davis (N.C. Central) threw 13.1 innings giving up 13 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits while striking out 11 batters. 
  • Kendall Smith (N.C. Central) hit .600 on the weekend (6-of-10) with three runs, five RBI, one double and three stolen bases in a 1-2 week for the Eagles.
  • Jamari Charley (S.C. State) went 4-of-7 at the plate with two RBI and four runs scored with one triple and one home run in a 2-1 week for the Bulldogs. 
  • Marley Quammie (S.C. State) went 4-of-9 (.444 BA) at the plate for the Bulldogs with one double, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
