MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 17, 2025 – Coppin State forward Laila Lawrence was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, while Howard guard Saniyah King earned Rookie of the Week honors.  
 
Lawrence (F, Sr., Lewisville, Texas) recorded a double-double with 20 points, 18 rebounds (12 defensive) in the 63-53 win over N.C Central. She added two assists, one block and one steal while shooting 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line.  
 
King (G, Fr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steal during a 2-0 week for the Bison. In the win against Maryland Eastern Shore, King finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal. She followed with 11 points, four rebounds, five assists and one steal in the win over Delaware State. 

Other Top Performers

  • Kierra McElrath (DSU) recorded 18 points, six rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist in the loss against Howard.  
  • Ericka Huggins (DSU) tallied two points, eight rebounds, one assist and two steals in the loss to Howard. 
  • Destiny Howell (HU) averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks during a 2-0 week for the Bison. 
  • Naya Ojukwu (MSU) recorded her third straight double-double and fifth of the season, finishing with 20 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs, to help Morgan State to its second consecutive win over S.C. State. 
  • Diamond Johnson (NSU) finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the win over UMES. 
  • Kierra Wheeler (NSU) recorded nine points, nine rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal in the 70-48 win over UMES. 
  • Dianna Blake (NCCU) tallied 10 points, five rebounds and one steal in a loss to Coppin State. 
  • Morgan Callahan (NCCU) recorded 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and a career-high four blocks in the loss to Coppin State.
