NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 10, 2025 – South Carolina State junior Taylor Ames-Alexander has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week. Howard's Lauryn Jones was named Rookie of the Week, while S.C. State's Ciara Farrar was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Ames-Alexander (Jr., INF, Lancaster, S.C.) tallied a .538 batting average through four games for the Lady Bulldogs. She recorded seven hits in 13 at-bats, driving in three RBI with two triples on the weekend. In the season opener against Furman, Ames-Alexander drove in three RBI while laying down a pair of triples in the 8-4 victory.
Jones (Fr., INF, Denton, Texas) hit an impressive .714 over the weekend helping the Bison to a 2-1 start to the season with a pair of wins over Drexel. She recorded five hits in seven appearances at the plate with one run, one RBI and five total bases. Jones walked twice and registered two sacrifice hits.
Ciara Farrar (So., P, Charlotte, N.C.) threw 9.0 innings, including a complete game win against Tennessee Tech, for the Bulldogs collecting a 0.78 ERA. Farrar gave up just one earned run on seven hits.
Other Top Performers
- Ameenah Ballenger (Howard) pitched a total of 13.1 innings registering a 1.58 ERA giving up three earned runs on nine hits in 46 batters faced. She also went 4-of-9 at the plate with four RBI and a double.
- Victoria Fletcher (Morgan State) threw five strikeouts over 13.1 innings while giving up 12 runs on 17 hits.
- Rylee Hyde (Morgan State) went 4-of-14 at the plate for the bears with one RBI and one run scored collecting a .286 batting average.
- Amber Rivas (Morgan State) registered a .385 batting average on the weekend with one run on five hits driving in three RBI with two doubles.
- Daiyah Bailey (N.C. Central) recorded three runs in three at-bats with one hit and a stolen base while hitting .333 at the plate.
- Kendall Smith (N.C. Central) tallied a .400 batting average after going 4-of-10 at the plate with two runs scored, three RBI and two doubles.
