MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 10, 2025 – Howard forward Zennia Thomas was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week. Delaware State forward Ericka Huggins was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina Central forward Jada Tiggett earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. 

Thomas (F, Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) averaged 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Bison. She recorded 25 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal to lead Howard in the 81-64 win over N.C. Central. In the 68-41 win over S.C. State, Thomas recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds while adding one steal. 

Huggins (F, Fr., Wilmington, Del.) posted a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds while adding three assists, three blocks and two steals in the win over Virginia University of Lynchburg. Huggins finished the week averaging 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocks for the Hornets.  

Tiggett (F, 6-2, So., Winchester, Calif.) averaged 8.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2.5 steals in two games for the Eagles.  Against Norfolk State, Tiggett registered six blocks setting a new season-high while also setting a new season high in steals with three in the game against Howard.  

Other Top Performers

  • Laila Lawrence (CSU) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with three blocks in the win over Maryland Eastern Shore. 

  • Kiarra McElrath (DSU) totaled 27 points, 12 rebounds, and eight steals across two games in a 1-1 week for the Hornets. 

  • Saniyah King (HU) averaged 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Bison. 

  • Naya Ojukwu (MSU) recorded her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, in a win over Delaware State. 

  • Nia Green (MSU) registered nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win over Delaware State.

  • Shakiria Foster (NCCU) averaged 8.0 points 2.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists in an 0-2 week for the Eagles.
