MEAC MEN’S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS PRESENTED BY WELLS FARGO

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced its Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors, presented by Wells Fargo. Norfolk State’s Elijah Jamison was named Player of the Week, while teammate Adrean Newton earned Rookie of the Week honors. Khouri Carvey of North Carolina Central was selected as Defensive Player of the Week.

Jamison (G, 6-3, 195, Sr., Louisburg, N.C.) recorded a career-high 30 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, including a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range, to go along with two rebounds, four assists, and one steal in a win over Jackson State. He followed that performance with 26 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals against Grambling. For the week, Jamison totaled 68 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals across three contests.

Carvey (F, 6-9, 232, Sr., Wilson, N.C.) narrowly missed back-to-back double-digit rebounding performances, pulling down 11 rebounds against Longwood and nine boards versus Mid-Atlantic Christian. He also recorded five steals and two blocks for the Eagles. Offensively, Carvey averaged 15.0 points per game while shooting an impressive 72 percent (13-of-18) from the field.

Newton (G, 6-0, 165, Fr., Norfolk, Va.) totaled 19 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and one steal in three games last week. In an 82–72 non-conference win over Jackson State, he scored 10 points on 2-of-2 shooting from beyond the arc and dished out seven assists.

Other Top Performances
  • Bryce Harris (Howard) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, adding two assists, three steals, and one block in a 67–66 win over UNC Wilmington.
  • James Ponce (Delaware State) averaged 14.0 points and 3.0 rebounds while tallying seven assists, four steals, and one block to help the Hornets post a 1–1 record for the week.
  • Jae Slack (North Carolina Central) posted a double-double of 32 points and 11 rebounds, along with three assists and two steals, in just 26 minutes of play in a win over Mid-Atlantic Christian.
  • Cedric Taylor III (Howard) totaled 27 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, four blocks, and three steals in wins over Drexel and UNC Wilmington.
  • Taj Thweatt (Coppin State) contributed eight rebounds, two steals, and five points against Navy.
