South Carolina State’s Jarod Washington Earns Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week Honors Football | 11/11/2025 4:33:26 PM NORFOLK, Va. —South Carolina State standout defensive back Jarod Washington has been named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for Week 11, following a dominant, highlight-reel performance in the Bulldogs’ 42-12 victory over Howard. Washington delivered one of the nation’s most impressive defensive outings of the season, becoming the only FCS player with six passes defended in a game this year, a feat he has now accomplished twice. The senior defensive back added two touchdowns to his stat line, electrifying the Bulldogs’ sideline and lifting S.C. State to its third consecutive conference win. His impact was immediate. Washington jumped a route for a 27-yard pick-six in the first quarter, setting the tone early. He later ended the first half in dramatic fashion, scooping up a blocked field goal and racing 56 yards for his second touchdown of the game. In addition to the two scores, Washington broke up five passes and collected four solo tackles, anchoring a defense that has helped propel S.C. State to the top of the MEAC standings. Washington’s national honor adds to his growing list of accolades, which this week also includes recognition as the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week. Washington joins this week’s national honorees: Villanova running back Ja’briel Mace (Offensive Player of the Week), North Dakota State’s Aaron Bickerton (Special Teams Player of the Week), Chattanooga quarterback Battle Alberson (Freshman Player of the Week), and Davidson (National Team of the Week).
