NORFOLK, Va., Sept 5, 2024 – Week two of the 2024 women’s volleyball season continues with performances from Howard and Maryland Eastern Shore on the road on Thursday evening. Howard improved to a 3-1 record after defeating Houston Christian, while Maryland Eastern Shore lost to in three sets to Georgia Southern dropping to a 2-2 record.
 
HOWARD
 
HOUSTON, Texas – Howard University women's volleyball team opened the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial with a 3-1 victory over Houston Christian (HCU). With the win, the Bison moved to 3-1 while the Huskies dropped to 1-3 overall.
 
Howard def. Houston Chrisian (17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21)
 
Junior outside hitter Rya McKinnon- (Hoover, Ala.) and sophomore setter Sydnei (Bridgeville, Pa.) led the Bison attack. McKinnon notched her third double-double of the season (17 kills & 11 digs) while the Pennsylvania native finished with 42 assists (career-high) and eight digs.

MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
 
STATESBORO, Ga. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team fell to Georgia Southern, 3-0 Thursday evening in their first match of the GATA Challenge at Hanner Fieldhouse on the Georgia Southern campus.

Georgia Southern def. Maryland Eastern Shore (2519-, 25-15, 25-17).
 
Junior Tola Maczka made her first career start for the Hawks, recording 15 assists as a setter in her debut. Nkemjika Ikemefuna led the Hawks with nine kills while Ranyla Griggs followed with eight. Valeria Matias led the team with 12 digs.
