NORFOLK, Va.,Sept 4, 2024 – A trio of teams competed on the road Wednesday evening  to kick off week two of the 2024 volleyball season.  Coppin State took on American University, while Norfolk State faced the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Maryland Eastern Shore matched up against Mercer. 
 
COPPIN STATE

 WASHINGTON, D.C. – A season-high ten kills from Sophia Bertotti Metoyer were not enough as the Coppin State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision on Wednesday afternoon at Bender Arena. Coppin State fell to 2-2 on the season while American remained perfect at 5-0
 
American University def. Coppin State (25-16, 25-20, 25-23).
 
Bertotti Metoyer hit .400 on 20 swings while adding an ace and a pair of digs. She was followed offensively by TaKenya Stafford and Gabriela Zuquelo with seven kills apiece and. Ayanna Pharoah with six. Kahea Carvalho finished a dig shy of a double-double, recording a career-high 21 assists to go with three kills and an ace.

MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE

MACON, Ga.,- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball program fell to Mercer 3-0 on Wednesday evening in the opening game of its Georgia trip. The Hawks finished one of three games this week all held in Georgia.

Mercer def. Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (12-25, 16-25, 21-25)
 
Valeria Matias had 17 digs, marking her third straight game with double-digit digs, while Nkemjik Ikemefuna and Ranyla Griggs finished with seven kills apiece.

NORFOLK STATE
 
 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Norfolk State volleyball team fell to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, 3-0, Wednesday evening in its first road game of the season. 
 
University of North Carolina at Charlotte def. Norfolk State (25-23,25-23,25-16)

Gabrielle Gilbert led the team with 16 kills as Alexa Harris finished. with 10. Sydney McCree tallied 28 assists, team-high nine digs and two service aces.
