NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
ATLANTA, Ga. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team took third place at the HBCU National Tennis Championships hosted at the South Fulton Tennis Center on Sept. 19-22. Leo Fortier-Gariepy and Amtoni Pankowski triumphed in the men's B Doubles Flight Championship.
Fortier-Gariepy and Pankowski defeated Gokalp Ayar and Sebastian Vaquero of Jackson State University 6-4 as the one seed in the Doubles B Flight bringing home the trophy.
Kareem Abdul Hakim and Oliver Saarinen made it to the A Flight Doubles final and dropped 7-5 to David Jeanne-Grandinot and Gordan Mileusnic of Alabama State.
Pankowski made a finals appearance in the Singles C Flight dropping in three sets to Jackson State's Maas Schotanus.
Senior Hugo Hidalgo Vega reached the semifinals in the men's A Singles Flight but was defeated in three sets by Jonasz Dziopak from Tennessee State.

NORFOLK STATE
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Norfolk State men's tennis competed at the Navy's Joe Hunt Invitational.
Jakub Solarski dominated the "Green" draw, winning all three of his singles matches. He began the event with a 7-6 , 4-6 10-2 victory over Navy freshman George Cutone. He followed that performance with a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Morgan State's Makkijha Brown, before besting John Hopkins freshman Jason Li 6-0, 6-3.
Frederick McRae went an undefeated 3-0 in the "Yellow" singles draw.
McRae continued to battle, taking down Navy's Charlie Spencer 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, before cruising past Morgan State's Anthony Parris 6-1, 6-1.
Deniz Okyay went 2-1 in the "Pink" draw, with a pair of wins against Morgan State's Jacob Poole (6-2, 6-1) and swept Navy's Zack Giertz 6-0, 6-0.
Vladisav Gorbatenko feated Navy’s Steve Nguyen 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 in the “White” draw.
Solarski and Okyay paired up to go 2-1 in the "Red" draw, with victories against Johns Hopkins and Morgan State. Gorbatenko and McRae also went 2-1 in the "Orange" draw, before taking down Navy's Jonathan Lee and Presbyterian's Marco Foglieni 6-3 in an extra match.

MORGAN STATE
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Morgan State men’s tennis team saw action in two events this past weekend at the HBCU National Tennis Championships hosted at the South Fulton Tennis Center on Sept. 19-22, and Navy’s Joe Hunt Invitational.
The Bears placed sixth out of 15 teams at the HBCU National Tennis Championships.
Mikeal Carpenter won five singles matches and contributed in a pair of doubles match victories, including a victory against North Carolina Centrals Hugo Hidalgo Vega and Rodrigo Alves. Makkijha Brown added a point for Morgan with a default victory over Xavier University of Louisiana’s Dedric Ray.
Carpenter advanced to the finals after two set victory (6-2, 6-2) against Tennessee State’s Taj Hibbert in the quarter finals.
RESULTS
At the Joe Hunt Invitational, Niles Rachal and Carpenter each grabbed a pair of singles victories. Rachal made a comeback to defeat Presbyterian’s Pedro Cardoso (2-6, 6-2, 6-3), before defeating Rajendra Chakor from Johns Hopkins.
Carpenter had a two singles victories against Presbyterians Herrick Legaspi (6-2, 6-1) and John’s Hopkin’s Daniel ARDILA, (6-2, 6-2).
Bertin Karenzi also grabbed a win against Norfolk State’s Vladisav Gorbatenko 6-4 in both sets.
Ameer Muhammad also won his singles match against Boris Lunin 3-6, 1-0 along with Jacob Poole who defeated Zach Giertz 6-2 in both sets.

HOWARD
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Michal Major represented Howard at the Joe Hunt Invitational, with a pair of singles matches against opponents from Fairleigh Dickenson and George Mason. Major fought in a three-set loss to the Patriots Monil Lotlikar (4-6,6-4, 6-2).
