NORFOLK, Va. --- Norfolk State director of cross country/track and field programs Kenneth Giles added Brian Triolet and Regan Kimtai to his coaching staff earlier this week.
Triolet comes to NSU with 17 years of coaching experience, primarily working with pole vaulters. He has produced multiple district/conference champions, including the boys and girls beach district indoor and outdoor record holders. He also boasts a long list of state-qualifying vaulters who have won state championships.
Triolet has served as a volunteer pole vault coach at Norfolk State since 2009. During this time, he mentored Spartan school record holder Brett Dodd.
"Brian Triolet is a championship coach that takes student-athletes where they want to go," Giles said. "His addition to the program will help take our student-athletes to not necessarily where they want to go, but where they should be."
Trolet holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Old Dominion University.
Kimtai returns to Norfolk State following a decorated career as a student-athlete. Kimtai placed first in the 800 meters and the 3,000 steeplechase at the MEAC Outdoor Championships in 2023, winning the mile at the same meet. He earned Most Outstanding Runner honors at both the indoor and outdoor championships.
"Regan Kimtai is a leader who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way in how to be a champion," Giles said.
Kimtai also won the 1,500 meters at the 2022 MEAC Outdoor Championships, as well as the mile at the MEAC Indoor Championships that same year.
Before his time at Norfolk State, Kimtai competed at North Carolina A&T from 2018-21. He earned a second-place finish for the Aggies at the MEAC Cross Country Championships as a freshman. also winning the 800 meters, mile, and 5,000 meters at the MEAC Indoor Championships that same year. He built on those finishes during the outdoor season, taking first in the 1,500 meters and the 800 meters at the MEAC Championships.
Kimtai earned first place as a sophomore in the mile, 5,000 meters, and the distance medley relay at the MEAC Indoor Championships. He also won the javelin throw and the 1,500 meters during the MEAC Outdoor Championships.
Kimtai earned his bachelor's degree from Norfolk State in 2022.
