Tennis Head Coach Ebonye Jones to Serve as Coin Tosser at US Open on August 28

QUEENS, N.Y. – Coppin State tennis head coach Ebonye Jones will serve as the coin tosser at the 2024 US Open Tennis Championships on Wednesday, August 28 in the match featuring Taylor Townsend vs. Paula Badosa at 11:00 am. Jones will be part of the pre-match ceremony at Louie Armstrong Stadium of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
 
As a coin tosser, Jones will play an essential role in the pre-match rituals, adding to the iconic traditions of the US Open as it marks the start of the match.
 
Jones was hired as Coppin State's men's & women's head tennis coach in January 2018 after spending five seasons at Trinity (D.C.). She concurrently served as a Net Generation and Member Engagement Coordinator with the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section where she spearheaded programs such as 'Girls Rule the Court' and 'Emerging Leaders Academy.'
 
While at Coppin, Jones has guided six Eagles to All-Conference accolades, one of whom was named to the MEAC's All-Time Team in 2021 as part of the league's 50th anniversary.  Additionally, former Eagle Christy Turner was named a White House HBCU Scholar.
 
Following a playing career at Albany State where she was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, Jones joined the Professional Tennis Registry in 2005 and began coaching at MACH Academy.  She also served as a Staff Pro at the Nike Adult Tennis Camp at Amherst College and Pure Tennis at Atlanta, as well as an Assistant Head Pro at Crestview Tennis & Swim Club in New Providence, N.J.
