S.C. State Women's Tennis falls to No. 15 N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C., May 4, 2024 - South Carolina State University women’s tennis season ended in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 4-0 loss to No. 15 North Carolina State University. 

The Bulldogs fell behind early dropping the doubles point to the Wolfpack as the No. 1 and 2 doubles pairs for N.C. State won their respective flights 6-2 and 6-3.  

Sofiya Chursina and Semlali Hind took on the No. 1 duo Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo, who rank 12th nationally, while Rachida Berjane and Feriel Mahbouli faced off against the 29th ranked duo of Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova. 

Nalanda Silva and Teodora Vujicic trail 5-4 at doubles No. 3 to Gina Dittmann and Kristina Paskauskas. 

Moving into the singles flights, the Wolfpack continued its advance winning at No. 1, 3 and 6 to claim the last three team points needed to clinch the victory.

Chursina took three games in the first set against Rajecki, ranked No. 2 nationally, but dropped the second set 6-0 as N.C. State claimed their second team point.  

Berjane fell 6-1, 6-0 after taking a game against No. 62 Zyryanova at No. 3 singles, while Mahbouli won four games in total at No. 6 singles against Abrams who won 6-2, 6-2 for the fourth and final Wolfpack point.

Hind was ahead in set two 4-0 after falling in set one 6-0 to No. 71 Abigail Rencheli before the match ended.  

Silva had taken two games from Dittmann who led 6-1, 4-1 at No. 4 singles while Vujicic trail 6-1, 5-0 to Zampardo at No. 5 singles.  

S.C. State finished the 2024 season with a 16-5 record after claiming their fourth consecutive MEAC championship, the program's 18th overall.
