NORFOLK, Va., May 12, 2024 --- 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball champion Morgan State will be heading to Durham, N.C., for the Durham Regional for the NCAA Softball Championship, as the 64-team field was unveiled Sunday evening on ESPN2.
The Bears (35-18) will face No. 10 national seed Duke at the Duke Softball Stadium. Double-elimination regional play will begin on Friday, May; MSU and Duke will play at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The University of South Carolina and the University of Utah will also be in the Durham Regional.
MSU won its second-ever MEAC softball title on Saturday with a 6-0 win over Coppin State in the if-necessary game in the championship round of the conference tournament. The Bears boast MEAC Player of the Year and MEAC Softball Championship Outstanding Performer Victoria Fletcher and Co-Coach of the Year Larry Hineline.
Duke (47-6) has five All-ACC performers, including Claire Davidson and Jala Wright were unanimously voted the ACC Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, while Aminah Vega was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Marissa Young was tabbed the Coach of the Year for the first time in her career. All four major awards were the first in program history. The Blue Devils claimed the programs second-ever ACC Softball Championship on Saturday, May 11, with a 6-3 victory over Florida State University.
