INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Norfolk State will play in not one, but two showcase events during the first half of the 2024 football season.
The Spartans will face MEAC foe North Carolina Central in the 40
th Annual Circle City Classic, the organization announced this week.
Kickoff is slated for Saturday, Sept. 28 at Lucas Oil Stadium, home to the Indianapolis Colts.
The showdown will mark Norfolk State's first appearance in the historic game, and North Carolina Central's second consecutive. The Eagles took down Mississippi Valley State 45-3 in the 2023 Circle City Classic.
The event is marked by a variety of events during the week leading up celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including the Circle City Coronation and Greek Stroll.
Norfolk State returns five of its six All-MEAC selections from the 2023 season, all on the defensive side of the ball. The Spartans led the conference in average attendance last year, competing in five home games during the 2023 campaign.
North Carolina Central posted a 9-3 overall record last year, going 4-1 in MEAC play. The Eagles earned a spot in the NCAA Division I FCS Championship Playoffs, falling at No. 22 Richmond in the opening round.
