UMES falls in roll off against Duquesne in Pittsburgh Regional semifinal match

PITTSBURGH, Pa., April 6, 2024 --- Maryland Eastern Shore fought to the very end against Duquesne in the mega-match semifinal round of the Pittsburgh Regional. The Hawks ended up falling in a roll off between the squads to determine who would advance to face Jacksonville State in the Regional championship match. 

UMES started the match with a win in the traditional format outscoring DU 962-904. Alejandra Amezcua led the Hawks with a score of 258 sitting middle of the lineup.  

In the total pinfall round, the teams traded the lead four times throughout the first four matches before Duquesne won the fifth game 199-182 to pull ahead by 22 pins for the win. 

With the match score tied a one point each, the teams went into the best of seven format. Maryland Eastern Shore won the first three games, 245-198, 236-178, 201-192. The Dukes took game three 221-147 before tying with the Hawks in game five 199 pins each. With some momentum behind them, Duquesne won games six and seven, 172-171, 189-158, tying the match score at 3.5 points each and forcing a roll off.  

In the final five frame roll off, the Dukes knocked down 86 pins while the Hawks felled 73 ending their run in the NCAA Women’s Bowling Tournament.
