Freshmen Pitchers Lead the Way Against Delaware State

NORFOLK, Va. -  The Norfolk State softball team defeated Delaware State, 2-1, on Saturday at the NSU Softball Field due to combined efforts by freshmen pitchers Kailey Bryant, Emma Zieg, and Maddy Morris.

The Spartans' (3-31, 2-7 MEAC) hot start catapulted them over the Hornets (10-16, 3-6 MEAC) after three singles in the bottom of the first.

Aniyah Michalak and Loren Hudson hit singles to reach and advanced due to passed balls to put runners on second and third.

Morris singled in her at-bat down the right field line to score not only Michalak but Hudson as well for her first career multi-RBI game.

The pitching duo of Bryant and Zieg combined for 7.0 innings pitched, allowing only four hits, one run, two walks, two strikeouts against 29 batters faced.

Zieg, garnered her first career win, after pitching 3.1 innings and allowing a single hit or run against 11 batters.

Bryant pitched 3.2 innings, allowed four hits, one run, two walks, and two strikeouts against 18 batters.

Coming up - The Spartans head to Princess Anne, MD to face Maryland Eastern Shore in a series from Apr. 6-7. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.
