MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., April 16, 2024 – North Carolina Central freshman Tyler Suttles was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Morgan State’s Ellie Bostedt was named Rookie of the Week, while fellow Lady Bear teammate Victoria Fletcher was named the Pitcher of the Week.   

Suttles (Fr., OF, Menifee, Calif.) recorded a .545 batting average to lead the Eagles in a 3-0 week against Maryland Eastern Shore. In 11 plate appearances, she recorded six hits with one double, one triple, two walks and seven RBI while crossing home plate three times. She recorded three hits in both the first and third games against UMES while also recording two stolen bases in the series opener. 

Bostedt (Fr., P/DH, Las Vegas, Nev.) registered one double and one triple on the weekend while hitting .455 against Norfolk State. The freshman pitcher/designated hitter recorded five hits in 11 plate appearances, driving in four RBI and scoring three times while also stealing one base. Bostedt threw a complete game shutout in the series finale giving up only four hits in seven innings with five strikeouts in 25 batters faced. 

Fletcher (Gr., P, Huntington, Md.) collected a 0.86 ERA giving up just one run on three hits while striking out six of 28 batters faced. She started the weekend series off with a five-inning shutout during which she struck out five batters. Fletcher added two hits including a home run with four RBI in eight at-bats.  

Other top performers  

  • Vanessa Carrizosa (Coppin State) threw 21.2 innings throughout the week with one win and three complete games for the Eagles. She collected a 2.97 ERA giving up 12 runs, nine earned, on 24 hits while striking out seven batters. 
  • DeAsia Lowther (South Carolina State) recorded two doubles on four hits in nine at-bats while driving in four RBI. 
  • Loren Hudson (Norfolk State) batted a .444 registering four hits in nine plate appearances with two doubles.  
  • Aniyah Michalak (Norfolk State) hit .429 at the plate recording three hits in seven at-bats with three runs and two RBI with one double and one homerun. 
  • Brierra Tyler (Norfolk State) threw 3.2 innings collecting a 8.75 ERA with one strikeout against 21 batters faced. 
  • Amber Rivas (Morgan State) hit .600 while going six of 10 at the plate recording one double, one triple and six runs while driving in two RBI.
