South Carolina State Women's Tennis Claimed the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship Title

NORFOLK, Va., April 15, 2024 --- The South Carolina State women’s tennis team claimed the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season championship title for the second straight season, after defeating North Carolina Central 4-3 in the regular season conference finale.  

The Bulldogs grabbed a pair of doubles wins taking a one-point advantage over the Eagles. Sofiya Chursina and Hind Semlali defeated Jade Houston and Candice Bernier 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Nalanda Silva and Teodora Vujicic took down Patricia Palencia and Isabelle Exsted at No. 3 doubles with a final score of 6-2.  

Semlali won 6-3 in both sets against Houston at No. 2 singles, while her teammate Silva beat Palencia 6-2 in both sets at No. 4 singles to add another point in for South Carolina State.  

After the Bulldogs dropped No. 1 and No. 3 singles to the Eagles, Vujicic won the deciding match at No. 5 singles in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Exsted.  

South Carolina State swept through conference play with 7-0 wins over Coppin State, Morgan State, and Norfolk State. S.C. State defeated Delaware State and Howard 5-2 in both matchups, then concluded their season with a final 4-3 victory against North Carolina Central to clinch the MEAC regular season championship title.
