Norfolk, VA – March 8, 2024 - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) proudly announces Wells Fargo as the recipient of the prestigious 2024 Corporate Partner of the Year award. The accolade will be celebrated with an on-court presentation during the men's championship game on Saturday, March 16, marking a highlight of the 2024 MEAC Basketball Tournament hosted at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
Wells Fargo's noteworthy contributions as a partner have significantly impacted the MEAC on and off the field to earn the esteemed title of Corporate Partner of the Year. Wells Fargo joins a list of esteemed corporate partners to garner the accolade, including Nike, ESPN, and Coca-Cola, to name a few. MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills commended Wells Fargo for its outstanding commitment throughout the year, emphasizing the unique partnership's all-inclusive hand-on approach to showcasing their partnership and providing educational and financial resources.
“Wells Fargo has been an outstanding partner for the MEAC since coming on board last year,” said Commissioner Stills. “The recognition of Wells Fargo as our Corporate Partner of the Year encompasses a year-long commitment that reflects the totality of this vital partnership to provide a host of educational and financial resources to our conference and member institutions that impacts our students today and for generations to come.”
Wells Fargo's support has been evident through various initiatives, starting with a generous $100,000 donation to the MEAC Foundation. This contribution ensures that the conference's member institutions, student-athletes, and coaches have the resources required to compete at a Division I level, fostering an exceptional student-athlete experience. The bank played a vital role in the MEAC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee workshop and made its presence felt throughout the football season, including being named the presenting sponsor of MEAC Football Media Day.
In addition to these contributions, Wells Fargo executives will actively participate in financial literacy sessions at the Dr. Dennis E. Thomas Student Leadership Symposium during this year's MEAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. The bank will also maintain a visible presence at various events, including the College Fair and BBT Awards Show.
“Wells Fargo is grateful to be bestowed this honor,” said Dewey Norwood, Executive Director and HBCU Strategy lead. “Our relationship with the MEAC is continuing to grow and we’re excited to work with Commissioner Sonja Stills, her staff, university presidents, and alumni to identify opportunities to positively impact the lives of student athletes from their eight member
institutions. Wells Fargo is committed to serving the diverse needs of each campus and their community.”
Wells Fargo's commitment to the MEAC extends beyond the current year, as the bank has confirmed its role as a corporate sponsor for the upcoming 2024-25 athletic season. Their continued support ensures an ongoing presence at MEAC events throughout the year, reinforcing the partnership's positive impact on the conference and its community.
