Howard's NCAA Run Cut Short in First Four Round

DAYTON, Ohio, March 19, 2024 – The Howard University men’s basketball season ended with a 71–68 loss to Wagner University in the NCAA Tournament First Round game in Dayton, Ohio.  

A flurry of Bison three-point attempts flew in the final 14 seconds to tie the game; however, none fell in favor of Howard as their March Madness journey ended short. 

Bryce Harris and Seth Towns combined for 32 points scoring 16 apiece to lead the Bison. Dom Campbell returned to the court to lead Howard with eight rebounds while adding six points.  

The Bison came out in the first half on a slow start shooting 27.6 percent from the field making 8-of-29 field goal attempts. The teams headed into the halftime break with the score sitting at 38-27. 

Things turned around in the second half as Howard improved their shooting percentage to 50 percent (14-of-28) from the field.  

After trailing by as many as 17 points with 16:26 remaining on the clock, the Bison started on a comeback that took nearly the whole clock as they trailed by three points, 69-66, with 62 seconds on the clock following a layup by Isaiah Warfield.  

A layup by Bryce Harris with 17 seconds on the clock pulled Howard within one point, 69-68. The Bison fouled a Seahawk player who converted both of his free throws giving Howard the ball back with 14 seconds on the clock. Howard lifted up three three-point attempts in the final seconds with none of them falling in to even the score as the Bison fell 71-68.
