DURHAM, N.C. – With the advantage most of the second half, the North Carolina Central University men’s basketball team couldn’t hold the lead late falling to Radford University 70-67 on Thursday evening in McDougald-McLendon Arena. Junior forward Perry Smith Jr. led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
NCCU (3-7) came into the game on a two-game winning streak and led the majority of the battle.
The Eagles found themselves in a 9-0 hole to start the contest. Head coach LeVelle Moton called a quick timeout to talk things over. NC Central began to fight back and found themselves down by only one-point with 5:43 remaining in the half.
Senior guard Keishon Porter’s and-one layup gave NCCU its first lead with 5:15 remaining. The Highlanders would tie the contest up two times before NC Central took back the lead at the end of the half.

Samford (SoCon) def. SC State - 88-81
ORANGEBURG, SC—Six different Bulldogs scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State fell short, 88-81, at home to Samford in non-conference play Thursday (Dec. 5) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
South Carolina State falls to 4-6 overall, while Samford improves to 8-2 on the season.
Wilson Dubinsky led the way with a team-high 15 points, connecting 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arch. Senior forward Davion Everett added 12 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs led in several categories including points in the paint (36-30), second chance points (13-10), bench points (40-27) and rebounds (31-23).

Longwood (Big South) def. Md. Eastern Shore - 80-76
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks were in good position to end their six-game road swing before surrendering a late game run in an eventual 80-76 loss to Longwood on Thursday.
Behind the hot hand of guard Evan Johnson and Ketron "KC" Shaw, the Hawks jumped out to a 24-13 lead over the heavily favored Lancers. Longwood battled back to close the gap and grabbed its first lead with under a minute to go in the half, 39-38. Shaw ended a perfect half at the free throw line by sinking his seventh and eighth of the night to give the Hawks a 40-39 advantage of halftime. Johnson, who led all scorers with 18 in the first half, along with 14 points by Shaw accounted for all but eight UMES points in the first 20 minutes of play.
In a back-and-forth second half, Hawk big man Christopher Flippin started to make his presence felt with six points including a dunk off of a Johnson dish. LU and UMES exchanged the lead five times over the first 12 minutes of play with a Cardell Bailey putting UMES up 66-64 at the 7:07 mark.
