NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 30, 2024 – Norfolk State guard Diamond Johnson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Howard’s guard Saniyah King was named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin States's forward Laila Lawrence earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Johnson (G, 5-5, Gr., Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Spartans second SEC win of the season coming against a tough Auburn opponent. Johnson added three assists and four steals, becoming the first player to lead NSU in points, rebounds, assists, and steals in a single game since 2020.
King (G, 5-7, Fr., Washington, D.C.) recorded 12 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds while shooting 5-of-8 from the field, helping the Bison to a 75-46 victory over American.
Lawrence (F, Sr., Lewisville, Texas) recorded a season-high 19 rebounds along with 16 points, three assists, and three steals in the win against Bryant. Against Maine, Lawrence posted a season-high 27 points and six steals, adding 10 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Lawrence totaled 29 rebounds, nine steals, and three blocks in a 1-1 week for the Eagles.
