WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Derrius Ward scored a game-high 19 points in his Coppin State debut and the Eagles outscored Wake Forest in the second half, but it was not enough as Coppin dropped its season opener, 64-49 to the Demon Deacons on Monday night at LJVM Coliseum.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Martaz Robinson led all players with 30 points as the Delaware State men's basketball team opened its 2024 season. Despite the strong performance from Robinson, the Hornets dropped their season opener at Virginia Tech 83-60.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (November 4, 2024) - Freshman Blake Harper (Washington) made his debut in grand fashion, leading his team with 16 points, but the depth and talent proved to be too much as No. 1 Kansas defeated the Howard University men's basketball team, 87-57, in the Second Annual John McLendon Classic at Allen Fieldhouse before 15,300.
A freshman out of Gonzaga College High School in D.C., Harper connected on 6-of-10 from the floor--including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-5 Harper also added four rebounds and three assists.

Vanderbilt (SEC) def. Maryland Eastern Shore – 102-63
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In a matchup against SEC opponent Vanderbilt, the Hawks fell behind 9-3 after the first four minutes of play as UMES shooters opened to a 1-for-5 mark from the field. Vanderbilt led by as many as 20 midway through the opening half before a 9-0 run sparked by the scoring of transfer guard Ketron "KC" Shaw helped the Hawks narrow the gap down to 45-33 by halftime.
The Commodores took the momentum in the second half. A 9-0 run by Vanderbilt extended the lead to 20 by the 13 minute mark. UMES was unable to recover from that point on as the Commodores cruised to an eventual 102-63 victory.

Morgan State def. Frostburg State (MEC) – 89-76
BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 4, 2024) - In an electrifying season opener on Monday night, senior guard Wynston Tabbs poured in a game-high 24 points, leading the Morgan State men's basketball team to an impressive 89-76 victory over Frostburg State at Hill Field House.
Tabbs led three Bears in double figures as he shot on 8-for-12 from the field and connected on 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Amharie Simpkins scored 19 points with five rebounds and three assists, while Daniel Akitoby came off the bench and added a double-double by recording 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Frostburg State showcased a strong offensive performance, with four players record double-figures during the contest. Leading the charge was Eric Sondberg, who tallied 18 points on 6-for-17 shooting. Supporting him was Manok Lual, who added 15 points (5-10 FG), while Jayshaun Freeman added 11 points and Tony Pope chipped in 10.

Norfolk State def. Penn State Wilkes-Barre – 96-41
NORFOLK, Va. – Robert Jones began his 12th season as head coach of the Norfolk State men's basketball program on Monday night. And for the sixth consecutive season, his team opened the year with a victory.
The Spartans (1-0) spread the wealth in a 96-41 rout over Penn State Wilkes-Barre at Joseph G. Echols Hall. Making his first appearance for his new squad, Brian Moore Jr. paced the home team with 18 points on a 7-of-10 shooting tonight.
Six Spartans scored in double figures on Monday: Moore, Tyrel Bladen (14), Jaylani Darden (11), Dramane Camara (11), Kuluel Mading (10), and Sin'Cere McMahon (10). The points came in large part to facilitation from Christian Ings, who dished a career-high 10 assists.

George Mason (A-10) def. N.C. Central – 75-58
FAIRFAX, Va. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team was plagued by early foul trouble falling 75-58 to George Mason University at the EagleBank Arena in Monday evening's season opener.
Redshirt senior Isaac Parson and junior Josh Smith combined for 27 points to lead the Eagles. The majority of their points came from the charity stripe with Parson going a perfect 10-for-10.
The first set of starters on the floor for NC Central this season were juniors Perry Smith Jr., Po'Boigh King, Kelechi Okworogwo, Dionte Johnson and senior Keishon Porter. Smith Jr. scored the first bucket for the Eagles and of the game.

S.C. State def. Morris College – 137-55
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Six Bulldogs scored in double figures with senior guard Wilson Dubinsky tossing in a game-high 29 points including 8-of-9 from behind the three-point range to give SC State an, 137-55, win over visiting Morris College in men's basketball action Monday (Nov.4) night inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Newcomer Colin McKenzie displayed an impressive debut in his first game as a Bulldog scoring 19 points, while finishing 5-of-6 from behind the arc. Graduate guard Omar Croskey added 17 and John Oliver-Seay chipped in 12 off the bench in 12 minutes of play.
Drayton Jones and Florian Tenebay each added 11 points respectively in the win. Fifteen Bulldogs saw action tonight with South Carolina State shooting 22-of-34 from 3-point land as a team.
